Something to think about.

When teenagers are asked what they wish their parents would do better the most common response is listen.

Could it be that one of the keys to getting your teenager to open up and talk more is learning to listen in a way that works for them?

Here are 5 tips for better listening.  Listening in a way that your teenager will appreciate.

  • Ask clarifying questions
  • Acknowledge what you heard your teen say
  • Validate what they are experiencing
  • Listen with compassion
  • Be available to listen when your teenager is ready to talk.

Of these five tips which one do you think would have the greatest impact in getting your teen to open up and talk more?   I would love to hear your answer in the comments.

Parenting a teenager can be difficult, especially when you feel disconnected from them.  Developing your listening skills can be a great way to deepen your connection.

How would you like to have a teenager that doesn’t just keep you in the loop but they openly share their issues and concerns and seek your advice?

How would you like to feel like your son or daughter truly enjoys being with you?

That would be awesome … wouldn’t it?

Take the first step. Make a commitment to learn to listen in a way that builds connection and empowers your teenager to be their absolute best.
